Paper Culture's uploader does not directly support uploading HEIC images if you're uploading on a desktop/laptop. If you're not uploading directly from your phone you'll need to convert those images before you can upload them. Here are some of ways to do that.
Before beginning the upload process, here are some general guidelines we recommend:
- Always try to upload from within the Photos app or Folder
- Always have Automatic Format Conversion checked in your phone Settings > Photos
Recommended Approach
Upload directly from your phone
- You can upload your photos directly from your phone to our editor by signing into your Paper Culture account via a browser on your phone.
- Make sure that any photo you want to use for is stored in your 'Photos' app/folder on the phone.
- Once you are signed in and are in personalization, click on the Photos -> Upload Photos button on the side bar.
- When the photo uploader window appears, choose the 'Photo Library' folder, choose your photos inside that folder and click Upload.
- Doing this will directly convert your HEIC photos into a compatible format via the browser.
- You can then continue to work on the rest of your project from your phone, laptop or desktop.
- If you choose to work from a different device, please remember to LOG OUT of your account on your phone before you start working on the new device.
Other Ways to Upload
A. Mac computers
- Photos are still on your phone
- If the photos you want to use are still on your phone, please see the Recommended Approach section on how to transfer them. You can also try the methods listed in the Other section.
- Photos are already on your computer
- If you have already transferred your photos from your phone to your Mac, chances are that they are still in the HEIC format. You will need to convert these photos into the JPEG format to be able to use them in your photo book. You can do so, without having to upload them to a third party site, by following the easy steps outlined in this article. This will create a "Quick Action" on your Mac that you can keep reusing to convert photos locally on your computer.
- You can also open an HEIC image in Photos or Preview on your Mac, and choose File > Export, then choose a format such as JPEG or PNG before saving.
B. Windows computers
If you want to transfer your photos from your iPhone to a Windows computer, always use the native Windows Photo app to transfer photos to your computer. This app will automatically convert the photos into the JPEG format.
- Make sure Automatic Format Conversion is checked in your phone Settings.
- Connect your phone to your computer via the USB port and cable.
- Search for the Windows Photos app and select 'Import > From a USB device'.
C. Other
- Upload to Google Drive
-
You can upload any photos you want to use for your project to Google Drive directly from your phone.
-
This step requires you to have the Google Drive app installed and signed into on your phone.
-
Make sure that any photo you want to use for your photo book project is stored in your 'Photos' app/folder on the phone.
-
Once you are signed into Google Drive, navigate back to the Photos app, select the photos you'd like to use and then click on the Share icon. Select Google Drive from the Share options to upload your photos. Doing this will directly convert your HEIC photos into a compatible format via the browser.

You can now download these converted photos on any device of your choice to continue working on your photo book project.
-
- Email the photos to yourself
-
You can also email yourself any photo you wish to use. You can attach the photos to your email either from inside your phones Email app or inside the Photos app. Both methods should convert the photo into JPEG format.
