As part of Paper Culture's commitment to the environment, Paper Culture uses 100% post-consumer recycled paper on our cards and envelopes and sticker products like our address labels and gift tags. Unlike some other companies, we don't have an eco-friendly line… our entire catalog is eco-friendly. Even our packaging is recycled. For the paper geeks out there, we use responsible forestry certified paper, generated with wind power.
Our cards are produced on heavyweight 145lb paper. Compare this to "normal" cardstock from 120-140 lb paper used with our “premium” competitors.
Our envelopes are printed on 80lb weight paper. They have 95 brightness and are also printed on 100% post-consumer recycled materials!
Change to our Premium Paper
We've recently updated our premium paper from 130 to 145lb. Here are some frequently asked questions about our new paper.
Why did you change your paper?
We've always sought out the best paper that can produce the best quality cards. Recent technology has enabled us to print a heavier sheet when previously we were limited to 130lb. We created this paper that is unique to Paper Culture and is the heaviest standard sheet of any of the major players. Furthermore, and most importantly, this new, unique sheet results in the highest quality printing and sharpest images of any sheet we've ever made.
Of course, we've made no sacrifices on the sustainability side as our paper continues to be made from 100% post-consumer recycled paper which means that no new trees are cut down to create your cards. And as always, we plant a tree with every order.
The paper is exclusive to Paper Culture and we couldn't be more proud to offer it to our customers.
What is different about your paper as compared to the old paper?
Our premium paper moved from 130lb to 145lb and is about 18pt caliper (thickness). We've also
improved the printing with some new paper making techniques.
What is the GSM of your new paper?
Here is the thickness of our paper, along with approximate measurements for lb and gsm.
- Premium 145 lb paper = 393 gsm
- Double 260 lb paper = 704.08 gsm
- Triple 390 lb paper = 1056.12 gsm
There is some compression on the double and triple-thick paper, so those measurements may be more variable.
Are all of your cards printed on 145lb paper?
It is the default paper option for most of our cards. Some cards like folded cards we use different paper that is better for folding and scoring. In addition, some products offer the option to have double or triple-thick paper.
